By-law 2025-042: A by-law to amend Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 (parking restrictions on Benchlands Drive)

This by-law changes how parking works on Benchlands Drive during the winter. If you live or work along the street, you need to know when you can and cannot leave your vehicle on the road.

What it does

During winter maintenance hours, parking is not allowed on Benchlands Drive. This rule gives the City's snow plows and salt trucks a clear path so they can clear the road safely and quickly. You will see signs along the street that show the days and times the ban is in effect. When the ban is active, you must move your vehicle to a driveway or another allowed parking area before the posted time starts.

Who it applies to

This rule applies to all vehicles parked on Benchlands Drive, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and recreational vehicles. It does not apply to vehicles that are actively being used for winter maintenance, emergency services, or that have a valid seasonal permit for that specific block.

Fines

If you leave your vehicle on the street during a winter parking ban, you will receive a ticket under the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075. Fines start at $75.00 for a first offence. If your vehicle is blocking a snow plow, it may also be towed at your expense. The City is not responsible for damage to your vehicle while it is being moved.

When it takes effect

This by-law came into force on March 24, 2025, when Council passed it. The parking restrictions will apply for the remainder of the 2025–2026 winter season. You can check the seasonal calendar for the exact dates of the overnight parking ban and main road snow clearing schedules.

What it amends

This by-law amends the existing Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 to add Benchlands Drive to the list of streets with seasonal parking restrictions. It does not repeal any existing rules.

A certified copy of this by-law is available for review at the Clerk's Office or you can view it on our online by-law portal.
