By-law 2025-182: A by-law to amend Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 (speed limit on Benchlands Drive)

On December 8, 2025, Wrenford Council passed By-law 2025-182 to update traffic rules on Benchlands Drive. This change was made to keep pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers safe near Benchlands Lookout Park, where foot traffic increases during festivals and seasonal events.

What the by-law does

The by-law officially lowers the posted speed limit on Benchlands Drive from 50 kilometres per hour to 30 kilometres per hour. This matches the slower pace needed in areas with high visitor activity and families enjoying the park.

Who it applies to

Every driver using Benchlands Drive must follow the new 30 km/h limit. This includes through traffic, delivery vehicles, and residents. The rule applies year-round, day and night, unless temporary signage indicates a different limit for construction or events.

Fines and enforcement

Speeding in this zone is enforced by By-law Enforcement Officers and the Wrenford Police Service. Fines for breaking this by-law are set under the Provincial Offences Act. Drivers who ignore the reduced limit may receive a ticket and points on their licence.

When it takes effect

The new speed limit became active on December 8, 2025, the day Council approved the by-law. City crews will update the existing signage along the corridor over the coming weeks to match the new limit.

What it amends

This by-law amends Schedule A of the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075, which lists all municipal speed limits. It does not repeal any existing rules; it simply updates the speed rating for this specific stretch of road.

A certified copy of this by-law is available from the Clerk's Office at City Hall during regular business hours.
