By-law 2025-071: A by-law to amend Zoning By-law 2016-040 (Stage 2 Watering Restrictions)

By-law 2025-071 updates the Zoning By-law 2016-040 to put Stage 2 outdoor watering restrictions in place across Wrenford. These rules take effect on May 20, 2025, and stay in place until the city says otherwise. We introduced them because of dry weather and higher-than-normal water use.

Under this by-law, you must follow these watering rules:

  • Water outdoors only on the days that match the last digit of your street number. Even-numbered addresses water on even days of the month, and odd-numbered addresses water on odd days.
  • Use a handheld hose, a watering can, or a bucket. You cannot leave a hose running to water the lawn.
  • Water only before 9:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. to reduce evaporation.
  • Do not water if it is raining, if the ground is soaked, or if strong winds will blow the water away.
  • Do not water paved surfaces like driveways or sidewalks.

These rules apply to everyone in the city, including residents, landlords, and businesses. If you break the rules, you can get a fine under the Municipal Act, 2001. First-time violations usually come with a ticket, and repeat violations can lead to higher penalties.

Stage 2 watering rules help keep our water supply steady and protect our lakes and rivers during hot or dry spells.
