By-law 2025-057: 2025 Heritage Conservation Grant By-law
This by-law sets up the 2025 Heritage Conservation Grant programme. It gives financial help to property owners who want to restore historic facades in the downtown and Old Mill heritage conservation districts. The goal is to keep the unique look of Wrenford's oldest neighbourhoods safe for the future. You can learn more about the area's history at the Old Mill Museum & Archives.
What the by-law does
You can apply for a grant of up to $10,000.00 for eligible restoration work. This covers repairing or replacing historic windows, repointing brickwork, restoring original trim, and fixing structural issues that affect the front of your building. You will need to submit a clear plan of the work, cost estimates from licensed contractors, and photos of the finished project. The City pays half the grant when you start, and the rest after an inspection proves the work meets the rules.
Who it applies to
This programme is for registered property owners in the downtown and Old Mill heritage conservation districts. Tenants cannot apply directly, but you can help your landlord by gathering the required documents. Your property must follow all city rules, including the Heritage Conservation By-law and the Property Standards By-law 2019-112.
When it takes effect
The by-law takes effect on May 12, 2025, the day Council passed it. You can submit applications until December 31, 2025, or until the money runs out, whichever comes first. This by-law does not change any previous laws. It simply creates a new grant framework that the City will review each year.
Compliance and repayment
You must finish all approved work within twenty-four months of receiving the first payment. If you do not complete the project or use the money for something else, the City will ask for the full amount back. If you do not repay the funds within ninety days, the City may take the matter to the Provincial Offences Court. A certified copy of this by-law is available at Wrenford City Hall during regular business hours.
