By-law 2025-089: Fireworks By-law
Under By-law 2025-089: Fireworks By-law, the City of Wrenford bans the sale, possession, and use of fireworks without a permit. This rule applies to all residents, businesses, and visitors across the city. The by-law keeps our neighbourhoods safe and prevents accidental fires, especially during dry or windy periods.
Residents who want to host a fireworks display must apply for a permit through the Fire Prevention Office at Fire Station 1. The City will only issue permits for events that follow strict safety guidelines. If you want to host a fireworks display for a private event, you will need to submit a site plan, show proof of insurance, and provide contact information for a safety supervisor.
For your safety, never light a firework that has already been lit, and never try to relight or fix a dud. Wait at least 20 minutes, soak it in water, and throw it away safely. Always supervise children and pets, and keep them at a safe distance from any pyrotechnic activity. Unauthorized fireworks can cause serious injuries and damage to property.
Violations of this by-law carry fines. A first offence can result in a fine of up to $1,000.00, and a second offence within two years can result in a fine of $1,500.00. The City also charges a $245.00 after-hours site inspection fee if an inspector is called to a fireworks incident outside of normal business hours.
By-law 2025-089 was passed by Council at the Council meeting on June 23, 2025, and takes effect on August 1, 2025. A certified copy of the by-law is available for review at the Clerk's Office, Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, or by calling 519-555-0100.
