By-law 2025-094: A by-law to amend Transit System By-law (single-ride fare adjustments)

About this by-law

Wrenford City Council approved this by-law on July 14, 2025, to update the cost of single-ride fares for Wrenford Transit. The changes keep monthly and annual pass prices exactly the same.

What it does

This by-law raises the price for a regular adult single-ride fare from $3.25 to $3.50. The youth and senior single-ride fare will increase from $2.50 to $2.75. All other fare categories, including monthly passes, annual passes, day passes, and fare transfer options, stay at their current rates. The update reflects the rising cost of fuel, maintenance and driver wages across the transit network.

Who it applies to

The new fares apply to every passenger paying cash or using a contactless card to board a fixed-route bus in Wrenford. It does not change the pricing for Wrenford Access specialized transit, student group rates, or corporate bulk transit agreements.

Fines

Paying the correct fare is required under the Provincial Offences Act. If you board a bus without a valid ticket, day pass or monthly pass, you may be issued a provincial offence notice. The standard fine for fare evasion is $160.00. You can appeal a ticket through the Provincial Offences Court at 120 Church Street.

When it takes effect

The adjusted fares go into effect on July 1, 2025. Any transit ticket or pass that was purchased before that date remains valid until its printed expiry date.

What it amends

This by-law amends Schedule A of By-law 2017-095, the Transit System By-law, which sets out the original fare structure for the city's bus network.
