By-law 2025-088: Commercial Delivery Noise By-law
Purpose
This by-law manages noise from commercial deliveries in residential neighbourhoods. It makes sure deliveries do not disturb residents, especially during early morning and evening hours.
Main provisions
Commercial delivery vehicles must keep engines off or use idle-stop technology when parked. Delivery workers must use noise-reduction equipment, such as rubberized dollies and lift gates, instead of slamming doors or dropping boxes. The by-law sets quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Monday to Friday, and all day on weekends and statutory holidays, unless a delivery is scheduled in advance for a business.
Who it applies to
It applies to all commercial delivery vehicles operating in residential zones. This includes food trucks, courier services, and waste collection vehicles when operating outside their main routes.
Exemptions
Emergency deliveries required for public safety, health, or infrastructure repairs are exempt. The Wrenford Police Service and Tamsin Valley Public Health are also exempt when responding to urgent calls.
Fines and enforcement
By-law Enforcement Officers can issue tickets for violations under the Municipal Act, 2001 and the Provincial Offences Act. A first offence carries a fine of $350.00. Repeat offences within twelve months carry a fine of $700.00. You can pay fines at the Provincial Offences Court or online through Service Wrenford.
When it takes effect
This by-law took effect on July 1, 2025. It amends the Noise By-law 2016-122 to add a new section on commercial deliveries.
