By-law 2026-034: A by-law to amend Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 (speed limit on Westbrook Drive)
About this by-law
By-law 2026-034 was passed by council on March 9, 2026 at the March 9, 2026 council meeting. It changes the rules for driving on Westbrook Drive.
Why we are making this change
The Westbrook Community Arena is undergoing construction. To keep drivers, workers and pedestrians safe while the work is underway, the City needs to slow traffic in the area.
What the by-law does
This by-law amends the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 to lower the speed limit on Westbrook Drive from 50 kilometres per hour to 40 kilometres per hour. The reduced speed zone covers the stretch of road closest to the construction site. New signage will mark the start and end of the zone.
Who it applies to
This rule applies to all vehicles using Westbrook Drive in the affected area. If you drive through the zone, you must follow the 40 km/h limit until you see the end-of-zone sign.
Fines and penalties
Driving faster than the posted limit in a construction zone is a serious offence. If you are caught speeding here, you will face fines under the by-law schedule and the Highway Traffic Act. Points may also be added to your driver's licence.
When it takes effect
The by-law took effect on the day it was passed, March 9, 2026. Traffic control measures and new signs are being installed now.
