By-law 2026-038: A by-law to amend Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151 (water rate adjustment)

Purpose

This by-law adjusts the base water rate and consumption charges for residential customers to reflect increased infrastructure maintenance costs.

What it does

By-law 2026-038 updates the water rate schedule in the Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151. It increases the monthly base charge and adjusts the per-cubic-metre consumption rate for single-family residential properties. The changes are designed to cover the rising costs of maintaining the city's water treatment and distribution network, including upgrades to the Tamsin River Water Treatment Plant and main replacements along older residential streets.

Who it applies to

The new rates apply to all residential water accounts in the City of Wrenford. Commercial and industrial accounts remain on the previous schedule until a separate review is completed later this year. Pre-authorized payment customers will see the adjusted amount on their next bi-monthly bill.

Fines and penalties

This by-law does not create new fines. Non-payment of the updated water charges will continue to be handled under the existing billing procedures in the Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151, including late payment penalties and potential service restrictions after 90 days.

When it takes effect

The adjusted rates take effect on the first billing cycle beginning July 1, 2026. Customers who switch to pre-authorized monthly payments will see the change applied to their August withdrawal.

Amendments and repeals

This by-law amends the rate schedules in the Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151. No by-laws are repealed.
