By-law 2026-152: Wildlife Feeding Prohibition By-law

Purpose

This by-law makes it illegal to feed wildlife in any City park, trail, or natural area. When you feed animals like deer, geese, or raccoons, it changes their natural behaviour and can make them aggressive or sick. It also brings them closer to people, which raises the risk of bites, scratches, and disease. The City wants to keep wildlife wild and healthy so you can enjoy nature safely.

Where it applies

The rule covers all public spaces managed by the City, including Riverside Flats Park, Ambrel Lake Park, the Corvid Creek Ravine, and the Tamsin River Trail System.

Exceptions

The prohibition does not apply to licensed wildlife rehabilitators, agricultural operations, or official City-run educational events.

Fines and enforcement

If you are caught feeding wildlife in a City space, a by-law enforcement officer can issue a ticket. A first offence carries a fine of $150.00. Repeat offences within a year result in higher penalties. Our by-law enforcement team works alongside Park Rangers to help keep Wrenford's wildlife and residents safe.

Effective date and copies

This by-law took effect on October 13, 2026, when Council passed it. It is a new by-law and does not amend or repeal any previous legislation. A certified copy is available for review at the Clerk's Office, City Hall, or online through our by-law search portal.
