By-law 2026-100: A by-law to amend Waste Management By-law (Canada Day weekend waste collection)

Purpose

By-law 2026-100 temporarily adjusts waste collection rules to help residents manage extra trash generated during the Canada Day long weekend. The City of Wrenford recognizes that households often produce more waste when hosting guests or attending community events.

What it does

This by-law authorizes households to place one additional garbage bag or bin out for collection on the regular pickup day during the Canada Day weekend, from July 3 to July 6, 2026. This exception applies to the standard biweekly garbage collection service and does not change the collection schedule for Blue Box recycling or Green Bin organics.

Who it applies to

The temporary allowance applies to all residential properties across the City of Wrenford. It does not apply to commercial or industrial operations, which must continue following their existing waste management agreements.

Fines and penalties

Residents who exceed the one-bag limit or leave out unmarked containers will be subject to the standard penalties outlined in the Waste Management By-law. First-time violations typically carry a fine of $75.00, with higher penalties for repeated non-compliance.

When it takes effect

The by-law came into effect on July 13, 2026, when it was passed by Council. The temporary collection rules are active for the July 3 to July 6 period only and will automatically expire afterward.

Amendments

By-law 2026-100 amends the Waste Management By-law to create a seasonal exception for Canada Day weekend collections. It does not repeal any existing provisions.
