By-law 2026-095: Sidewalk Construction Standards By-law

Purpose

This by-law sets the rules for materials and safety during sidewalk construction across Wrenford.

What it does

The Sidewalk Construction Standards By-law 2026-095 outlines the standards for new sidewalks in the city. It covers the type of materials that must be used, safety barriers required during active work zones, and how to properly restore landscaping after construction. The by-law ensures that all sidewalks are built to last and keep pedestrians safe.

Who it applies to

This by-law applies to anyone building or repairing a sidewalk in Wrenford, including the City, new housing developers, and private homeowners. In established neighbourhoods, the City covers the full cost. New housing developers pay for sidewalks on their own land. If your request is approved, construction usually starts the following spring.

Fines

Violations of this by-law can result in a fine of up to $10,000.00 under the Provincial Offences Act. By-law enforcement officers are authorized to issue tickets for non-compliance.

When it takes effect

This by-law takes effect on the day it is passed by Council, July 13, 2026.

Amendments and repeals

This by-law does not amend or repeal any existing by-laws. It replaces previous informal standards with a formal, enforceable code.

A certified copy of the by-law is available from the Clerk's office at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street. You can contact the Roads & Winter Maintenance team if you have questions. Call 519-555-0100.
