By-law 2024-123: A by-law to amend Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 (temporary parking restrictions on Fallsview Road)
This by-law was passed by Council on October 15, 2024, at the October 15, 2024 Council meeting. It amends the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 to put temporary parking restrictions in place along the Fallsview Road corridor.
Purpose
The goal of this by-law is to clear the roadway and sidewalks so our public works crew can safely install seasonal lighting for the Lights at the Falls event. Keeping the area free of parked vehicles ensures the project finishes on schedule and keeps pedestrians safe while crews work.
What it does
Under this amendment, on-street parking is prohibited on both sides of Fallsview Road between Mercer Street and the Centennial Bridge. The restriction covers the full width of the street where needed for equipment access. Traffic signals and detour signs will be posted during the work period. If you live or work on Fallsview Road, you will need to use nearby surface lots or check the Parking page for alternative options outside the restricted zone.
Who it applies to
This rule applies to all drivers and vehicle owners within the restricted area. It also covers delivery trucks, rideshare vehicles, and commercial deliveries that would normally use on-street loading zones in that stretch.
When it takes effect
The temporary parking ban starts on December 15, 2024, and runs until December 31, 2024. It will be lifted once the lighting installation is complete and the area is cleared of equipment. Wrenford Transit routes that normally pass through this section will continue to operate with minor schedule adjustments, which are posted on the Transit page.
Fines
Violating a temporary parking restriction is a provincial offence. Drivers who park in the restricted zone during the active period risk a fine of $160.00 under the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075. Vehicles that block emergency access or impede work crews may be towed at the owner's expense.
Amendments
This by-law modifies Schedule A of the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 to add a new temporary restriction zone for the specified dates. It does not repeal any existing sections.
A certified copy of the by-law is available for review at the Clerk's Office, located at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street. You can also find the full text on the By-laws page.
