By-law 2024-021: A by-law appointing By-law Enforcement Officers under the Municipal Act, 2001

Under the Municipal Act, 2001, the City of Wrenford needs trained staff to make sure our local rules are followed. This by-law officially names specific senior city staff members as By-law Enforcement Officers. Their job is to enforce municipal by-laws across Wrenford, focusing on parking, noise, and property standards.

These officers have the same authority as other municipal enforcement staff in Ontario. They can issue tickets, issue orders to fix problems, and lay charges under the Provincial Offences Act when needed. The by-law works alongside the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) to ensure all enforcement is fair, transparent, and respects your privacy.

This appointment applies to any city employee named in the schedule attached to the by-law. If a new senior staff member is hired or an existing one moves to a different role, the City can update the list without passing a whole new by-law. The by-law took effect on February 12, 2024, the day Council passed it. It does not replace any older by-laws.

If you are stopped by a By-law Enforcement Officer, they will show their identification. You can ask for a copy of the by-law they are enforcing at any time. Fines for parking, noise, or property standards violations are set out in their respective by-laws, such as Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 and Noise By-law 2016-122. If you receive a ticket, you can pay it online, by mail, or in person at the Provincial Offences Court or Wrenford City Hall.

A certified copy of this by-law is available from the City Clerk's office. You can visit the counter at City Hall during business hours or call 519-555-0100.
