By-law 2024-112: A by-law to amend Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 (parking restrictions on Market Square)
Purpose
This by-law amends the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 to prohibit parking on Market Square during business hours. The change supports the Wrenford Police Service business safety outreach program and improves pedestrian access for local merchants.
What it does
The amendment restricts on-street parking in the Market Square area from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, except for loading zones and transit stops. This ensures clear sightlines for officers conducting business safety checks and keeps sidewalks open for shoppers and small business owners.
Who it applies to
The restriction applies to all vehicles parking on Market Square and the immediate adjacent curb lanes within the Downtown neighbourhood. Residents and delivery drivers can still use designated loading zones for up to 15 minutes.
Fines
Violations of this restriction are subject to a fine of $160.00 under the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075. Repeated offences may result in towing at the owner's expense.
When it takes effect
The by-law came into force on October 1, 2024, following a two-week public information period. Signage and road markings were updated in late September to warn drivers ahead of the change.
What it amends
This by-law amends Schedule A of the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 to update the restricted parking zones for Market Square. It does not repeal or replace the parent by-law.
A certified copy of the by-law is available from the City Clerk's Office at Wrenford City Hall or through the online by-law search portal.
