By-law 2024-078: Residential Rental Property Licensing By-law
You must register and get a licence if you own a long-term rental property in Wrenford. This by-law, passed on June 10, 2024, keeps tenants safe and makes sure every building meets our housing standards.
What you need to do
Every rental unit needs an approved fire safety plan. This plan explains how you will keep tenants safe in a fire and how they should leave the building quickly. Your plan must match the layout and features of your building. You will need to bring a copy of your property deed or lease agreement and proof of your insurance coverage when you apply. Visit Wrenford City Hall at 100 Mercer Street or call 519-555-0100 to pick up an application.
Inspections and compliance
All rental properties are inspected under this by-law. City By-law Enforcement officers may visit to check compliance with safety and maintenance rules. The Wrenford Fire Rescue team also checks that your property meets the National Fire Code requirements. Landlords are responsible for keeping their properties up to standard at all times.
Fines and penalties
Failure to licence your property or keep it safe can result in fines. You may also be asked to fix safety issues before your licence is approved. If your property fails an inspection, you will have a set time to make the necessary repairs.
When it takes effect
This by-law took effect on September 1, 2024. It does not amend any previous by-laws. A certified copy of the by-law is available from the City Clerk's office at Wrenford City Hall.
