By-law 2024-054: A by-law to amend Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 (bus stop shelter locations)

Purpose

This by-law updates the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 to make room for new transit shelters at busy transfer points in the downtown area. It also adjusts parking restrictions around those stops to keep buses and pedestrians safe while shelters are built and once they are open.

What it does

The by-law designates specific locations near the Downtown Transit Terminal and along Tamsin Street where new shelters will be installed. It creates temporary no-parking zones during construction and permanent loading-zone rules once the shelters are in place. The changes help Wrenford Transit passengers board and exit buses safely in all weather.

Who it applies to

The rules apply to all drivers, delivery vehicles, and transit riders using the affected downtown streets. If you normally park along Mercer Street or Water Street near the transit terminal, check the new temporary signs during construction and note the updated permanent parking rules.

Fines

Violating the updated parking restrictions can result in a $75.00 fine for parking in a restricted zone under the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075. Repeated offences or blocked bus lanes may carry higher penalties. You can pay fines at the Provincial Offences Court or through Service Wrenford.

When it takes effect

The by-law comes into force on the day it is passed, April 8, 2024. Temporary construction zones will be marked with signage and will remain in place until shelters are completed. Permanent parking changes follow immediately after construction ends.

Amendments and repeals

This by-law amends the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 only. It does not repeal any existing sections. The updated schedule is available at City Services or through the online by-law search portal.
