By-law 2024-022: A by-law to amend Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 (lifting parking ban at Ambrel Lake Park)

What this by-law does

This by-law amends the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 to temporarily suspend the overnight parking prohibition along Ambrel Lake Road near Ambrel Lake Park. The suspension begins at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024.

Why this matters to you

The City needs clear streets to run its snow clearing machines safely. When a winter storm passes, our crews use plows and blowers to clear main roads and residential streets quickly. By lifting the parking ban for a few hours, we can move heavy equipment through the area without getting stuck or damaging parked cars.

Who does this apply to

If you park along Ambrel Lake Road or on side streets near Ambrel Lake Park, you must move your vehicle before 6:00 a.m. on February 19. Service vehicles, work trucks and cars in driveways or on private property are not affected.

What happens if you ignore the notice

Vehicles left in the work zone after the deadline may be ticketed or towed. Fines under the Traffic and Parking By-law 2014-075 start at $75.00 for parking in a restricted zone. If you cannot move your car, park it in a garage or on a friend's driveway until the work is done.

When does it take effect

The temporary change is active from 6:00 a.m. on February 19, 2024, until snow clearing operations in the area are complete. The City will post advance notices with signage on the street.

What does it change

This by-law adds a temporary exception to the standard overnight parking ban (December 1 to March 31, 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.) for a specific section of Ambrel Lake Road. It does not repeal or change the regular winter parking rules.
