By-law 2020-088: Sign By-law
This by-law, passed by Council on June 22, 2020, sets the rules for placing, sizing, and maintaining signs throughout Wrenford. It helps keep our streets clear, reduces visual clutter, and ensures that signs are safe for pedestrians and drivers.
The by-law applies to all properties in the city, including private homes, businesses, and public spaces. It outlines the specific size limits for different types of signs, such as business identification signs, yard sale signs, and construction signs. You must follow the district-specific rules that match your property’s zoning.
You will need a temporary sign permit for signs that are meant to stay in place for a short time, like real estate signs or event banners. The City provides a simple application process for these permits through the Sign permits and applications page.
The by-law also covers sign maintenance. Property owners are responsible for keeping their signs in good repair. Signs that are broken, faded, or pose a safety hazard must be fixed or removed. If a sign is not maintained, the City may remove it at the owner’s expense.
Violating this by-law can result in fines. First-time offences carry a fine of up to $500.00, and repeat offences can result in higher penalties. You can pay fines or appeal a decision at the Provincial Offences Court or by using the Appeal a decision page.
This by-law takes effect on July 1, 2020. It replaces the previous sign regulations and updates them to match current planning standards. A certified copy of By-law 2020-088 is available for review at the City Clerk’s Office, located at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, or you can request a copy through the Freedom of information page.
