By-law 2015-058: Fence and Pool Enclosure By-law

This by-law sets clear safety rules for swimming pools and fences near waterways across Wrenford. Its main goal is to keep residents safe and protect the natural environment along our rivers and creeks.

What the by-law covers

If you own a swimming pool, the by-law requires a safety barrier at least 1.5 metres high. The barrier must have a self-closing, self-latching gate that opens away from the pool. The rules also cover fences along the Tamsin River and Corvid Creek Ravine to prevent unsupervised access to the water and protect sensitive habitats.

Who it applies to

These rules apply to all property owners, residents, and developers within the City of Wrenford. New builds and major renovations must follow these standards from the ground up.

When it takes effect

Council passed this by-law on April 27, 2015. It works alongside the Ontario Building Code and the Building Code Act, 1992 to ensure all structures meet municipal safety standards.

Fines and enforcement

By-law Enforcement Officers inspect properties to ensure compliance. If a fence or pool barrier does not meet the rules, you will receive a notice to fix the issue. Failure to comply can result in fines under the Provincial Offences Act, 1990. In some cases, the City may install the required barrier and charge the cost to the property owner.
