By-law 2019-112: Property Standards By-law
By-law 2019-112, the Property Standards By-law, sets the rules for keeping your property safe and tidy. Passed by council on August 12, 2019, it applies to all residential, commercial, and industrial properties in the City of Wrenford. You must keep your buildings, fences, and yards in good condition. This means fixing broken windows, repairing loose siding, and making sure structures are safe for people to use. Fences must be sturdy and well-maintained. Yards should be free of trash, weeds, and unsafe debris.
If your property does not meet these standards, a By-law Enforcement Officer will visit to review the issue. You will receive a notice giving you a set time to make the repairs. If the problem is not fixed, the City may do the work and bill you for the cost. You can also face fines. A first offence carries a fine of up to $500.00. Repeat offences can lead to fines of up to $1,000.00 per day until the issue is resolved.
This by-law takes effect on January 1, 2020. It replaces the previous property standards rules that were in place before 2019. A certified copy of the by-law is available for review at the City Clerk's office at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, or through the online by-law search portal.
