By-law 2023-105: Waste Management By-law
This by-law sets out the rules for separating waste, managing contamination, and handling commercial organics across the city. It supports Wrenford's goal of reaching a 60 per cent diversion target by 2030. The by-law updates how we sort materials, including changes to the Blue Box program. Under the new rules, the Blue Box is collected on the same day as your Green Bin.
The by-law applies to all residents, businesses, and property managers. It requires apartment and condo managers to set up sorting stations in their lobbies. To help with this setup, the City offers a free home visit service for building managers. Ben Achterberg, the city's Waste Programs Supervisor, leads workshops at the Civic Operations Centre (455 Railside Road) to show residents and staff how to separate materials properly and reduce landfill fees.
Businesses and multi-unit buildings must follow these rules for commercial organics handling. Residents can drop off organic material at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility (3500 Concession 4 Road) at no cost. We recommend storing organic waste in a freezer or a sealed container to keep odours and pests at bay. Violations of this by-law may result in fines or notices to comply.
This by-law was passed by Council on August 14, 2023, and took effect immediately upon passage. A certified copy is available from the Clerk's office at Wrenford City Hall (100 Mercer Street). For more information on how to sort your waste correctly, visit Garbage & Recycling.
