By-law 2021-033: Business Licensing By-law

Purpose

This by-law makes sure every commercial and industrial business operating in Wrenford holds a valid licence. It helps the City keep an accurate record of local businesses and collect the fees needed to run municipal services.

What it does

The by-law sets out the rules for applying for, renewing, and maintaining a business licence. It covers different types of licences, including licences for home-based businesses. If you run a business from your home, you must follow the Zoning rules and the rules in this by-law. You cannot use your property for exterior storage, outdoor work, or window displays unless you have special permission. If you rent your home, you must provide written consent from your landlord.

Who it applies to

This by-law applies to almost all commercial and industrial activities within the City of Wrenford. Some professions and trades are exempt from needing a municipal licence under this by-law, though they can choose to appear in the business directory. If a business does not have a current City of Wrenford Business Licence, it will not appear in the official directory.

Fines

Operating without a required licence can result in fines under the Provincial Offences Act, 1990. Repeated violations may lead to higher penalties and a requirement to stop operating until the licence is renewed.

When it takes effect

Council passed this by-law on March 8, 2021, and it took effect on April 1, 2021.

What it amends or repeals

This by-law repeals and replaces the previous Business Licensing By-law 2014-070.
