By-law 2023-099: Community Standards By-law

Purpose

This by-law sets out the rules for keeping Wrenford a safe, clean and welcoming place for everyone. It covers how you use city facilities, how we maintain our streets in winter, and general standards of conduct across the city.

What it does

Facility use agreements: If you rent a city facility, you must sign an agreement before getting keys or access codes. Recreation spaces are shared community areas. You are expected to keep noise reasonable, clean up after your event and respect other people and property.

Sidewalk clearing: To keep crews safe, you must clear snow from the sidewalks next to your property within 24 hours of a snowfall. This applies to all residential snow routes. If you do not clear your sidewalk, you can be fined under this by-law.

General conduct: The by-law also covers everyday community standards. For example, do not park at a broken parking meter or pay station. You will still receive a parking ticket under this by-law. Please report the issue so a maintenance crew can fix it quickly.

Who it applies to

This by-law applies to all residents, visitors and renters who use city facilities, parks or streets in Wrenford.

Fines

Violations of this by-law can result in fines. A first offence for failing to clear a sidewalk or violating facility use terms can carry a fine of up to $500.00. Repeat offences or more serious breaches can lead to higher penalties under the Provincial Offences Act, 1990.

When it takes effect

City Council passed this by-law on July 10, 2023. It took effect immediately upon passing.

Amendments and copies

This by-law does not repeal any older by-law. It works alongside other local rules like the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097 and the Clean Yards By-law. A certified copy of the full by-law is available for review at the Clerk's office, City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, or by calling 519-555-0100.
