By-law 2019-085: Councillor Salaries and Expenses By-law

City Councillors help make the decisions that shape Wrenford. To support their work, the City provides a budget for office costs, travel, and community events. By-law 2019-085: Councillor Salaries and Expenses By-law makes sure that money is spent wisely and that every dollar is tracked and shared with the public.

What the by-law does

This by-law covers how councillors are paid for their time and how they claim their work-related costs. It also sets the rules for the mayor's office operating budget, which covers administrative support and official duties.

Who it applies to

It applies to the Mayor and all six Ward Councillors. It also covers the staff who work directly in the Mayor's office and the Councillor's offices at City Hall.

How expenses are reported

Each councillor must submit a monthly expense report. These reports list all spending on travel, materials, and community meetings. The reports go to the City Clerk, who reviews them for accuracy before they are posted online. This process keeps our local government open and accountable.

When it takes effect

Council passed this by-law on June 24, 2019. It replaces previous councillor expense guidelines and updates the salary structure for the current term.

Fines and penalties

If a councillor fails to submit their reports on time or claims expenses that do not follow the rules, the City can withhold their next payment. Repeated or serious breaches may be referred to the Conflict of Interest Commissioner for further review under the Conflict of Interest Policy.
