Emergency preparedness and planning

Learn how the City prepares for emergencies and how you can make a plan and build a kit for your household.

How the City prepares

Emergency management is about reducing risk, getting ready, responding, and recovering. The City of Wrenford runs an Emergency Management Program led by Community Emergency Management Coordinator Liam O'Rourke. We work with the Wrenford Police Service, Wrenford Fire Rescue, Tamsin Valley Public Health, and the Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority to keep our community safe.

Our work is guided by the Municipal Emergency Response Plan and the Emergency Management By-law 2020-098. When a serious event happens, we activate the Emergency Operations Centre at City Hall to coordinate response efforts across departments and with our provincial and federal partners.

Stay informed

During an emergency, you need reliable information quickly. The Wrenford Emergency Alert Network sends voice, text, and email messages to residents about severe weather, evacuations, and other urgent events. Sign up to make sure you are in the system.

Prepare your household

When a crisis hits, emergency services are focused on the most critical needs. You and your family need to be ready to care for yourselves for at least three days. You can take small steps to improve your readiness:

  • Make an Emergency Plan that covers communication, meeting points, and special needs.
  • Build an Emergency Kit using the Household Emergency Kit Checklist. Include water, food, medications, a battery-powered radio, and flashlights.
  • Get to know your neighbours and look out for vulnerable residents on your street.

Follow the steps in our Emergency Preparedness Guide to work through each stage of planning.

Volunteer and get involved

Community resilience starts with neighbours helping neighbours. You can join the Wrenford Disaster Recovery Volunteer Registry to offer your skills during cleanup and recovery phases after a disaster. Local groups and community centres also run regular preparedness workshops. Check the event calendar for upcoming sessions.
