Year-round emergency shelter
The City of Wrenford operates a year-round emergency shelter to provide safe, low-barrier housing for residents experiencing houselessness. The shelter is located at 400 Railside Road, Wrenford, ON N4Q 3K8. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What you can expect
When you arrive, a staff member will help you check in. You will go through a brief safety screening. You do not need to provide identification to stay. All personal belongings are kept secure, and you will get them back when you leave.
The shelter offers:
- A safe place to sleep and store your belongings
- Three hot meals and snacks each day
- Access to washrooms and showers
- On-site case planning and housing navigation
- Referrals to Tamsin Valley Public Health, mental health services, and addiction support
Winter warming centres
When the temperature drops below -10°C, the City opens additional warming spaces in community arenas. These locations provide a safe place to rest during extreme cold events.
- Westbrook Community Arena (40 Westbrook Drive)
- Eastfield Twin Arenas (620 Eastfield Road)
Warming centres open when Wrenford 311 issues a cold weather alert. Check the Service Alerts page for updates.
How to access a bed
You can walk into either location at any time. If you need a referral or have questions about eligibility, call 519-555-0140 or email [email protected]. The shelter does not require sobriety or prior housing history. Individuals with pets can be directed to the designated pet-friendly zone.
Rules and safety
The shelter follows a low-barrier approach. We ask that all guests treat staff and other residents with respect. Weapons, illegal drugs, and excessive alcohol are not permitted inside. The Wrenford Police Service is available on-site for safety support but does not enforce criminal charges for shelter-related infractions.
A Good Neighbour Plan guides how we work with nearby businesses and residents. If you have a concern about the shelter, please contact the shelter manager directly at 519-555-0140.
Support for neighbours and businesses
We are committed to keeping the Railside neighbourhood safe and welcoming. The City works with the Wrenford Police Service and community partners to address concerns quickly. Our Good Neighbour Plan includes a dedicated outreach worker who visits local shops and buildings weekly.
