By-law 2023-164: A by-law to amend Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151 (transit fare assistance program)
This by-law was passed by council on November 13, 2023, at the Council meeting, November 13, 2023.
Purpose
To permanently fund the transit fare assistance program for eligible residents, ensuring long-term access to affordable public transportation.
What the by-law does
This by-law updates the Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151 to create a dedicated funding line for the transit fare assistance program. It sets aside an annual amount in the municipal budget to cover the cost of discounted fare rates. The program lowers monthly pass prices and single-ride fares for people who qualify based on income. It also extends reduced fares to seniors and residents with disabilities using Wrenford Transit fixed routes and Wrenford Access vehicles.
Who it applies to
The changes apply to every rider who uses the city's bus network. Eligible residents must apply through the standard intake process and provide proof of income or disability status. The program covers all transit routes, including the 1 to 14 fixed routes and the specialized transit service.
Fines and penalties
This by-law does not set fines or penalties. It focuses on funding and fare reductions.
When it takes effect
The by-law came into force on the day it was passed by council. The updated fare structure and new funding allocation are applied to the next transit billing cycle.
What it amends
This by-law amends the Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151 to add the transit fare assistance program schedule. It does not repeal any existing sections.
