Learn about park bylaws and rules

A guide to the rules you need to follow when visiting Wrenford's parks, trails, and playgrounds.

Keeping Wrenford's parks safe and welcoming

Wrenford's parks, trails, and playgrounds are where we gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors. To keep these spaces safe and clean for everyone, City staff enforce a few simple rules. Most of these rules are covered in our by-laws. If you follow them, you help protect our natural areas, our facilities, and each other.

Parking and vehicles

Always park in marked spaces or on designated streets near the park. Do not block driveways, fire hydrants, or emergency access roads. If you are driving a recreational vehicle or trailer, you may not leave it parked on a public street for more than 72 hours. During the winter parking ban from December 1 to March 31, do not park on snow-clearing routes. For a full list of parking rules, see Park parking rules.

Pets and animals

Pets must stay on a leash no longer than six metres at all times, except in designated off-leash zones like Hollis Park. Off-leash areas operate from dawn to dusk. You must clean up after your pet and dispose of the waste in a bin. Leaving a pet unattended in a park is not allowed and can result in a fine. Commercial dog walkers must hold a valid permit. Learn more about Off-leash dog areas and the Responsible Pet Ownership By-law 2018-063.

Fires and grilling

Open flames are only permitted in designated fire pits or barbecue grills. You cannot use charcoal grills in park shelters or indoor facilities. Check the Learn about park fire safety page for seasonal alerts and permit requirements. Always keep a safe distance from dry grass and native vegetation.

Smoking and vaping

Smoking and vaping are prohibited in all park buildings, shelters, playgrounds, and transit stops. This rule protects children, athletes, and people with respiratory conditions. For details on where you can and cannot smoke, see Learn about park smoking regulations.

Noise and events

Keep music and voices at a reasonable volume, especially near residential neighbourhoods. Quiet hours in parks run from 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. If you want to host a gathering, run a fundraiser, or film a commercial project in a park, you need a permit. Book your space through the Apply for a park rental permit portal or contact Events Coordinator Rosa Castellano.

Playgrounds and trails

Follow the age and height guidelines posted at each playground. Do not climb on equipment not meant for your age group, and supervise young children at all times. When hiking or cycling on the Tamsin River Trail System or through the Corvid Creek Ravine, stay on marked paths and yield to other users. See Learn about park playground amenities and Learn about park natural areas for more information.

Reporting violations

If you see a rule being broken, please let us know. You can report park by-law violations by calling 311, visiting the By-law Enforcement page, or emailing the team directly. Our officers focus on education and voluntary compliance first, but repeated violations can lead to tickets. For maintenance issues like broken benches or overflowing bins, use the Report a park maintenance issue form.
