Who needs a permit?
You need a park rental permit if you plan to run a business, film a project, host a special event, or operate a recreational programme in any City park or trail. This includes selling artwork, busking, operating a food stand, or holding a festival. The Municipal Act, 2001 gives the City the power to manage public spaces and keep them safe for everyone.
Types of permits
- Business and vending permits: For selling goods, services, or food in a park.
- Artist and performer permits: For painters, musicians, and other creatives who want to display or sell work.
- Filming and photography permits: For commercial shoots, documentaries, and professional photo sessions.
- Special event permits: For festivals, races, and community gatherings that use park space or close a trail.
How to apply
Applications open 30 days before your planned date. You can submit your application online or by mail.
- Download the Park Use Permit Application form.
- Complete all sections, including your proposed schedule and a map of your setup.
- Attach proof of general liability insurance. You must carry at least $2,000,000 in coverage and name the City of Wrenford as an additional insured.
- Submit your form and documents by email to [email protected] or by mail to City Hall.
Fees and payment
Permit fees depend on the type of activity, the size of the area, and the number of attendees. A standard business or filming permit costs $150.00. Special events over 50 people cost $300.00. Payment is due within 14 days of receiving your invoice. You can pay online through the City's payment portal or at the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall.
Rules and conditions
By holding a permit, you agree to follow all City by-laws and park rules. Key conditions include:
- Liability: You are responsible for any damage to park property, trails, or neighbouring homes caused by your event or business.
- Behaviour: Alcohol is only allowed in areas marked with signage. Smoking is prohibited in all City parks. Verbal or physical abuse will result in immediate permit cancellation.
- Access: You cannot block public pathways, roadways, or emergency access points. Multi-use trails must remain open for pedestrians and cyclists unless a temporary closure permit is approved.
- Insurance: Your policy must not include a participant exclusion. The City must be named as an additional insured on the certificate.
- Cancellations: If you cancel your permit at least 14 days in advance, you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 14 days before the date are non-refundable. The City reserves the right to modify or cancel permits due to weather, maintenance, or public safety concerns.
- Accessibility: All events must comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA). You must provide accessible routes and seating for attendees who use mobility devices.
