Why do we require insurance?
When you book a City facility or park space, we need to make sure everyone stays safe. General liability insurance protects you and your group if an accident happens or if property is damaged during your event. If your organization is a registered local club or sport group, you may already have coverage. Ask your group's leader to forward your existing certificate to us.
How to get insurance
You can get coverage through a private insurance broker or through our secure online insurance portal. The portal is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can handle last-minute needs quickly. When you buy a policy through the portal, your certificate is sent automatically to you and to the City. If you use your own broker, please email your certificate to [email protected].
Do I need insurance for my rental?
All bookings go through an insurance review. We group activities into two categories:
- Low-risk activities: Small gatherings with limited attendance and no special equipment usually do not need insurance. However, if your event is open to the public, serves alcohol, uses inflatable equipment, or expects more than 100 people, you will need a certificate.
- Medium and high-risk activities: Events with higher injury potential or property damage risk always require insurance. This includes most sports leagues, large community festivals, and commercial events.
If you are not sure whether your rental needs insurance, email our Facility Booking Specialists at [email protected] when you create your booking.
What must my certificate show?
If you need a certificate, it must include the following clauses and details:
- Commercial General Liability: Covers bodily injury, personal injury, advertising liability, and property damage to third parties that happen on the premises or arise from your operations.
- Participant Liability: Covers injuries to people taking part in your event, including injuries between participants. Look for wording like "bodily injury to participants" or "participant exclusion does not apply."
- Cross Liability: Allows each party named on the policy to be treated as an individual insured. This means one insured party can sue another if a claim arises.
- Additional Insured: The certificate must list the City of Wrenford as an additional insured. This gives the City coverage under your policy for claims related to your event.
