About the Wrenford Emergency Volunteer Network
When a major emergency or disaster strikes, first responders work hard to keep our community safe. The Wrenford Emergency Volunteer Network steps in to support people who have been displaced or affected. This programme brings together residents who want to help their neighbours during emergencies like severe weather, house fires, or floods. You do not need emergency experience to join. You just need a willingness to learn and a commitment to serving your community.
What you will do
Volunteers work alongside the Wrenford Police Service, Fire Rescue, and paramedics to deliver essential human support services. Your tasks may include:
- Registering evacuees and keeping accurate records at reception centres
- Distributing food, water, and essential supplies
- Helping families reunite and connecting them with long-term housing resources
- Providing childcare and emotional support for children and adults
- Maintaining clear communication between the City, local businesses, and service agencies
Your first priority is always your own safety and the safety of your household. Once your family is secure, you will focus on supporting others.
Training and commitment
Every volunteer completes a structured training programme before responding to an incident. Training is delivered by the City of Wrenford Emergency Management team, in partnership with the Wrenford Police Service, Fire Rescue, and Tamsin Valley Public Health. The programme includes self-paced online modules and one in-person practical session.
You will need to set aside approximately five to seven hours for the initial online coursework and a three-hour classroom session. After certification, we ask for a commitment of roughly two to four hours per month for refresher exercises, scheduled drills, and community outreach events.
How to join
Becoming a volunteer is straightforward. Follow these steps to get started:
- Sign up through the Wrenford Emergency Volunteer Network online portal
- Register for an upcoming information session (virtual or in-person at Wrenford City Hall)
- Complete the required online safety and reception centre modules
- Attend the in-person training and orientation
- Receive your volunteer ID and join the active roster
Specialized subteams are available for volunteers who want to focus on specific roles, such as transportation coordination or kitchen management. Advanced training is provided once you have completed the core programme.
