How we prepare and respond
When an emergency strikes, the City of Wrenford has a clear plan to keep you safe. Our team works year-round to prepare for severe weather, utility failures, and other crises. This page explains how our emergency management program is organized and who you can talk to.
Who leads our emergency response
The City Manager oversees the City's emergency management program and activates the emergency operations plan when needed. Day-to-day planning and community outreach are led by our Community Emergency Management Coordinator.
Our emergency response relies on close cooperation with other public safety agencies. The Wrenford Police Service handles law enforcement and traffic control during incidents. Wrenford Fire Rescue and Wrenford Paramedic Services provide medical and fire response. Tamsin Valley Public Health manages disease control and food safety, while the Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority monitors river levels and flood risks along the Tamsin River and Corvid Creek.
The Emergency Operations Centre
During a major emergency, the City activates the Emergency Operations Centre. Located on the lower level of Wrenford City Hall, this room becomes the central hub for decision-making and resource coordination. City leadership, public safety chiefs, and technical experts gather there to monitor the situation and share updates with the public. The Centre is not open to the public during normal operations, but it is fully staffed and ready during declared emergencies.
Partners in safety
No city can handle an emergency alone. We work closely with:
- Wrenford Police Service Board, which governs policing across the city.
- Wrenford Public Library Board, which serves as a community information hub and temporary shelter space if needed.
- Wrenford General Hospital, which provides critical medical care and coordinates patient transfers.
- Local neighbourhood associations, which help spread preparedness information door-to-door.
Stay connected and get involved
You play a key role in keeping your household and neighbourhood safe. We encourage every resident to build an emergency kit, review the City's evacuation routes, and register for the Wrenford Emergency Alert Network. This free system sends text messages, emails, and phone calls when severe weather or other hazards threaten the area.
If you want to help your neighbours during a crisis, you can join the Wrenford Disaster Recovery Volunteer Registry. Volunteers assist with shelter setup, supply distribution, and light cleanup work after an event passes.
