Starting January 1, 2026, the City of Wrenford is proposing a 5 per cent increase across all water and wastewater rates. This change will appear on your monthly utility bill and is designed to keep our aging pipes safe and our water quality high.
Wrenford’s water system is more than 80 years old in many parts of the city. To replace old mains and fix leaks before they cause service interruptions, the City needs to invest in infrastructure now. The proposed rates also support our ongoing Water Conservation and Efficiency Plan, which helps residents lower their usage and save money.
"We are balancing the need for critical pipe replacements with keeping bills as fair as possible for our residents," said Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "This 5 per cent increase is the minimum required to fund our 2026 repair schedule and avoid larger jumps in future years."
What the changes mean for you
The proposal affects both the fixed monthly service charge and the per-cubic-metre usage rates. Here is how it breaks down for an average household:
- Base water rate (first 100 m³): increases from $1.85 to $1.94 per cubic metre.
- Higher tier rate (above 100 m³): increases from $2.65 to $2.78 per cubic metre.
- Wastewater rate: increases from $1.95 to $2.05 per cubic metre.
- Monthly service charge: increases slightly to cover meter reading and billing upgrades.
Residents who are concerned about the impact on their budget can explore payment options. The City offers pre-authorized payment plans and penalty relief for those facing financial hardship. Public consultation
City Council will review the full financial report and vote on the Fees and Charges By-law at its meeting on October 20, 2025. All meetings are livestreamed, and residents are welcome to attend in person at City Hall or watch online.
