What happens when a payment is late
Property tax bills in Wrenford have strict due dates. If your payment is not received by the deadline, the City applies a monthly penalty to the unpaid balance. You can avoid these extra charges by paying on time or enrolling in a payment plan before the due date.
When your payment is due
Ontario property tax bills are split into two parts each year. You must pay the full amount for each part by its deadline:
- Interim bills: Due on the last business day of February and the last business day of April.
- Final bills: Due on the last business day of June and the last business day of September.
Check your property tax notice for your exact due date. You can also view your account and deadlines on Wrenford eProperty.
How penalties are calculated
If a balance remains after the due date, a 2% monthly penalty is added to the unpaid amount. This penalty is charged on the first day of each month until the balance is paid in full. The longer you wait, the more the penalty grows.
Penalties are set by the Municipal Act, 2001 and the City's Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151. The City does not charge interest on top of the penalty rate.
Ways to avoid or reduce penalties
You have several options to keep your account current or manage a balance without facing the full penalty rate.
Wrenford Tax Instalment Plan (WTIP)
The WTIP lets you pay your property taxes in monthly instalments through pre-authorized bank withdrawals. You must enroll before the first due date of the year to avoid penalties. Your first withdrawal will cover the current year's taxes up to the month you join, plus any past-due amounts. You can cancel the plan before the 22nd of the month before your next payment is scheduled.
Penalty Reduction Plan
If you already have a past-due balance, you may qualify for the Penalty Reduction Plan. This plan offers a reduced monthly arrears penalty if you agree to a 24-month payment schedule. You will need to apply through Revenue Services and commit to the full two-year term.
