When your property tax bills are due

Property taxes in Wrenford are collected in two parts each year. You will receive an interim bill and a final bill. Both are due on specific dates set by Council.

  • Interim bill: due the last business day of February and the last business day of April.
  • Final bill: due the last business day of June and the last business day of September.

If you pay by mail or drop off a cheque, the City must receive it by the due date. Online payments through the Wrenford eProperty portal are processed the same day. You can also pay in person at the Service Wrenford counter during business hours.

Payment plans and instalment options

If paying the full amount on the due date is difficult, you can spread your payments over the year. The City offers two main ways to manage your balance.

  • Wrenford Tax Instalment Plan (WTIP): Enrol in a pre-authorized monthly payment plan through the Wrenford eProperty portal. Enrolments must be submitted before the 22nd of the month preceding the next scheduled payment. This plan automatically withdraws funds to cover both interim and final bills.
  • Pre-authorized monthly plans: You can set up a monthly withdrawal for your interim and final bills without joining the full WTIP. This is useful if you prefer to manage your interim and final payments separately.

Contact the Revenue and Water Billing office to discuss which option works best for your budget.

Penalties for late payment

Unpaid property tax balances grow quickly. The City applies a 2% monthly penalty rate to any balance that remains unpaid after the due date. This penalty is added to your account every month until the balance is paid in full. Late payments can also affect your eligibility for certain grants and deferment programs.

If you are facing a temporary financial hardship, you may qualify for the Property Tax Assistance Program, which offers a five-year deferral and a one-time hardship grant. You can also apply for the Compassionate Property Tax Penalty Relief Program if your late payment was caused by an extraordinary circumstance, such as a critical illness or hospitalization.

Other important property tax deadlines

Several other property-related deadlines affect your annual tax bill. Make sure you meet these dates to avoid unexpected charges or incorrect tax rates.

  • March 1: Deadline to apply for the Farm Property Classification Application. If approved, your property will be taxed at the farm rate for the current year. Learn about farm tax rates.
  • Annually: All property owners must submit a Vacant Home Tax declaration through the Wrenford eProperty portal. Properties not used as a primary residence or rented for 180 or more days are subject to a 2% vacant home tax.
