When to close your account
You must close your water account when you move out of your home, sell your property, or no longer need water service. Closing your account ensures you are not charged for water you do not use and stops any automatic payments.
How to close your account
You can close your account online, by phone, by mail, or in person. You will need your property address and the date you want the service to end.
- Online: Log in to Wrenford eProperty and select “Close account” under your property profile.
- By phone: Call 519-555-0100 and ask for the Water Billing office.
- By mail: Send a signed letter with your name, property address, account number, and closing date to Water Billing, City of Wrenford, P.O. Box 5678, Station Main, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1.
- In person: Visit the Service Wrenford counter at Wrenford City Hall (100 Mercer Street). Bring a piece of government-issued photo ID.
Final water reading and billing
Once you request a closure, we will schedule a final water meter reading for the day after your closing date. A final bill will be generated based on that reading. If you have a positive balance in your account, a refund cheque will be mailed to your forward address within four weeks. If you owe money, the final bill will be due within 30 days.
Important details to know
Forwarding address: We must have a current mailing address to send your final bill and any refund. Update your address in Wrenford eProperty or tell us when you call.
Outstanding balances: All past-due water bills must be paid before your account can be closed. If you have a balance owing, you will need to pay it in full or set up a payment arrangement under Water account payment arrangements.
Selling your home: If you are selling your property, you can close your account on the day of closing. The new owner must open a new water account before they can use the water. If the account is not transferred or closed, you may remain responsible for charges after the sale. Check Move water, wastewater, and waste services for transfer options.
Seasonal closures: We do not offer seasonal or temporary closures for single-family homes. If you are away for a long period, you can request a meter read and re-read to bill only for the days you used the water. Contact us to arrange this.
