What your child will do at camp
Wrenford's day camps fill school breaks with fun, active days outdoors and indoors. Each week follows a theme that changes every year. Current themes include:
- Nature and trails: Guided walks along the Tamsin River Trail System, bird watching at Corvid Creek Ravine, and planting native flowers at community gardens.
- Water and aquatics: Supervised swimming, water games, and splash pad play at Kingfisher Outdoor Pool and Wildrye Splash Pad.
- Arts and culture: Painting, craft projects, and storytelling sessions held at the Fallsview Arts Centre studio space or community centre multipurpose rooms.
- Sports and games: Soccer, relay races, and dodgeball on the fields at Riverside Flats Park or Benchlands Lookout Park.
- Community helpers: Visits from Wrenford Fire Rescue and Wrenford Transit staff, plus learning how recycling and park maintenance work.
A typical day starts with morning check-in, followed by a mix of structured activities, free play, a packed lunch break, and afternoon games. Camp runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with drop-off starting at 7:45 a.m. and pickup by 5:15 p.m.
Camp locations
Day camps are held at community centres, local schools, and park facilities across the city. Your child's specific location and age group will be listed when you register. Common sites include:
- Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre
- Northgate Aquatic Centre
- Westbrook Community Arena
- Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre
- Riverside Flats Park fieldhouse
Some camps include off-site field trips to places like the Old Mill Museum & Archives or the Wrenford Public Library branches. Transit is provided on a charter bus for these trips.
Inclusion and support
We want every child to enjoy camp. Our programmes are group-based, meaning children participate in shared activities with peers. If your child has specific needs, tell us when you register so we can plan the best supports.
Available supports may include:
- Visual schedules and quiet spaces
- Adapted equipment for sports and crafts
- Trained staff to help with communication or medication
If your child needs personal care, physical lifting, or constant one-on-one supervision, you may be asked to bring a support worker or aide. Camp staff cannot provide intensive medical or behavioural support beyond standard first aid and CPR. For more details, see our Inclusive and adapted programs page.
What to bring and what to expect
Before camp starts, you will receive a parent communication package by email. Please review it carefully and bring the signed permission forms on day one.
Each day, your child should bring:
- A healthy lunch and snacks (no heating required)
- A refillable water bottle
- Weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes
- Any prescribed medication in its original container, with the completed medication form
Please leave valuable items, electronics, and toys at home. The City is not responsible for lost or damaged personal belongings.
Registration and fees
Camp registration opens on a set date each season. You can register online through Wrenford Recreation Online, in person at any aquatic facility or recreation centre desk, or by calling 311. Waitlists are maintained if a location fills up.
The standard fee is $125.00 per week. We offer financial assistance through the Recreation fee assistance programme, which can reduce the cost for eligible residents. You can also request a fee waiver or reduction if needed.
