Learn about park renovation projects

How the City plans, designs, and builds park upgrades to keep your outdoor spaces safe, accessible, and fun for everyone.

Over time, parks and their amenities wear out. Sun, snow, and heavy use can damage playgrounds, splash pads, washrooms, and sports fields. The City of Wrenford plans and carries out park renovation projects to fix worn-out features, improve accessibility, and meet the changing needs of your neighbourhood.

How we plan park upgrades

Every renovation starts with listening. We gather feedback from residents, neighbourhood associations, and community groups to understand what works and what needs improvement. We also review maintenance requests and track the age of equipment to spot parks that are due for an update.

Before any work begins, our Parks & Trails team checks the site for environmental factors, utility lines, and heritage considerations. We design all new amenities to meet the AODA standards so they are accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

How we design and build

Our planners and engineers work together to create designs that fit the park's setting and the community's vision. We use durable, sustainable materials that can handle Southwestern Ontario weather. When a project is ready, we put it out for competitive bids and award the contract to a qualified local contractor. During construction, we post signs and update our Service Alerts so you know what to expect.

Current and upcoming projects

We are always looking for ways to improve your parks. Here are a few projects currently in the planning or construction stages:

  • Riverside Flats Park splash pad renewal — We are replacing the existing spray deck and plumbing to reduce water waste and improve safety. Expected completion: late summer 2026.
  • Benchlands Lookout Park washroom renovation — The existing washrooms are being upgraded to meet modern accessibility standards and improve drainage. Construction starts in October 2026.
  • Ambrel Lake Park boardwalk repair — We are replacing weathered decking and reinforcing support beams to keep the boardwalk safe for walkers and cyclists. Work will happen in phases over the spring.

How you can get involved

You can help shape how your park looks and functions. When a renovation project is in the early stages, we host design workshops and online feedback forms. You can also submit ideas through Service Wrenford at any time.

If you want to contribute to a park project, you can also explore our Park donation program. Residents and community groups can donate funds or equipment to help upgrade play areas, trails, and gathering spaces.
