Find community garden plots

Register for a seasonal garden plot at city parks, learn about neighbourhood garden proposals, and find rules for growing your own food.

City garden plots

Grow your own food or flowers in a city-managed plot. Each plot covers about 3 by 9 metres. You get a lockable gate and access to a water spigot. Plots are ready for planting by late April.

Registration and fees

Spring registration opens on the first Monday of March. You can register online or at the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall. The fee is $45.00 annually per plot. You can pay by credit card, debit, or cash.

Returning gardeners get a one-week head start to renew their plot through our online portal. If your plot is not renewed by the deadline, it will be released to the waitlist.

Plot locations

We maintain plots at several parks across the city. Sites are assigned based on your ward and availability.

  • Riverside Flats Park
  • Ambrel Lake Park
  • Benchlands Lookout Park

Each site includes compost bins, a tool shed, and accessible pathways maintained by Parks & Trails.

Garden rules

To keep the gardens healthy for everyone, please follow these guidelines:

  • Keep weeds under control and harvest your crops on time.
  • Use organic compost and avoid chemical pesticides.
  • Do not build permanent structures or fences.
  • Clean up your plot completely by October 31.
  • Supervise children at all times.

If a plot is abandoned or neglected, the City will remove all plants and return the plot to the waitlist without notice.

Neighbourhood community gardens

A neighbourhood community garden is managed by residents rather than the City. If your group wants to start one, you must submit a proposal for review.

Your proposal should cover:

  • An administrative plan and volunteer list.
  • A site location and water source.
  • A maintenance and safety plan.
  • A budget and insurance coverage.

Submit your proposal to the Parks & Trails department at least 90 days before you want to start. We review all applications to make sure the site is safe and meets city standards.

Tools and water access

Each plot comes with a shared water spigot and a key to the on-site tool shed. The shed holds shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows. Please return all tools to the shed after use. If equipment is missing or broken, report it so we can fix it quickly.
