The City of Wrenford is expanding voting access ahead of the municipal election on Monday, October 26, with new facilities, improved signage, and dedicated staff to support voters with disabilities. City Clerk Nadia Kowalczyk, serving as Chief Election Officer, says the goal is a smooth, barrier-free experience for everyone.
To make advance voting easier, the City has expanded the network from 2022 to 60 larger voting places across all six wards. Locations include Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre, Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre, and Westbrook Community Arena. Each site features clear wayfinding signs, priority access lines, and translation services. Over 2,200 election workers are trained to assist voters and manage accessibility needs on the day.
Five assistive ballot marking devices are now available at every voting place, allowing voters with visual or mobility impairments to cast their vote independently. The City also upgraded its registration systems to reduce wait times and improve accuracy.
Advance voting runs from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on October 19, 21, 23, and 25. Election Day voting is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26. Residents who cannot visit a voting place in person can apply for Vote by Mail, which opens on September 8. For transit support, Wrenford Access offers door-to-door rides for those who need a lift to reach a polling station.
"The City has worked closely with community groups to ensure our election processes meet the highest standards of inclusion," said City Manager Robert Eng. "We want every eligible resident to feel confident and supported when casting their ballot."
Voters must be 18 years or older on election day, a Canadian citizen, and have lived in Wrenford for at least six months.
