City launches free child and youth recreation pass for summer 2025

Starting today, the City of Wrenford is rolling out the Free Child and Youth Recreation Pass for the summer of 2025. If you are a city resident aged 18 or under, this pass makes drop-in activities and facility access free for you.

With the new pass, you can walk in and join programs at city-run facilities without paying a daily fee. This includes the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre, Northgate Aquatic Centre, Westbrook Community Arena, and Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre. The pass also covers outdoor drop-in sports and splash pads, such as the Kingfisher Outdoor Pool and the Wildrye Splash Pad.

The Free Child and Youth Recreation Pass is part of the updated Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151. The bylaw also updates admission rates and park fees to keep facilities running smoothly and bring Wrenford in line with other Ontario municipalities. While the pass covers daily drop-in access, it does not replace registration fees for structured seasonal programs or day camps.

"We want to make sure every young person in Wrenford can enjoy active, healthy summers without worrying about the cost," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "This pass removes financial barriers so our youth can try new sports, swim, and connect with their neighbours."

Families are encouraged to use the pass to explore different activities together. While the program focuses on youth, the City also offers plenty of ways for older residents to stay active and connected. Seniors can browse Seniors recreation opportunities or find Seniors support, outreach, and networking through the City's community services.

To get a pass, visit the Service Wrenford counter at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, or apply online through the Recreation Portal. Bring a proof of address and a photo ID. You can also pick up a printed copy at any recreation centre front desk.
