Mayor announces home repair and accessibility funding program

Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price today announced the launch of three new funding programmes designed to help Wrenford homeowners repair their homes and install essential accessibility features. The Home Repair and Accessibility Funding initiative is now open to all residents across the city.

The programme introduces three distinct streams to address different needs. The Home Repair Grant provides up to $7,500 for essential structural and utility repairs that keep a home safe and habitable. For residents looking to age in place or improve mobility, the Accessibility Modification Loan offers low-interest financing of up to $15,000 for projects like wheelchair ramps, bathroom upgrades, and stair lifts. Additionally, the Seniors Home Safety Grant provides up to $2,500 specifically for fall-prevention and safety upgrades for residents aged sixty-five and older.

"These programmes are a direct response to feedback we have heard at the Accessibility committee and through our community engagement sessions," said City Manager Robert Eng. "Keeping our homes safe and accessible is fundamental to independent living, and we want to make sure financial barriers do not stop residents from making these vital improvements."

To apply, residents can visit the Home repair and accessibility funding page online or pick up an application at the Wrenford City Hall service counter. Staff are available to answer questions and help applicants complete the necessary forms. Pre-approval for the loan stream requires a property assessment and a contractor quote, while grants require proof of ownership and proof of income.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until funds are allocated. The City encourages homeowners to submit their applications early to avoid delays. For more details on how these programmes fit into the broader Accessibility at the City strategy, visit the official policy page.
