About the strategy

The Seniors Housing Strategy is the City's plan to make sure older residents can stay in their neighbourhoods as their needs change. Right now, 6,100 seniors in Wrenford live alone. This plan gives them the housing, supports and services they need to age safely and with dignity.

Council approved the strategy in March 2026. It was built with feedback from local health providers, non-profit housing groups and residents across the city.

Five key directions

The strategy sets out clear actions to protect existing homes and create new ones for older adults.

  • Protect purpose-built rentals: We work with landlords and housing providers to keep existing seniors' suites affordable and well-maintained.
  • Support aging in place: We fund home repairs, snow clearing and yard work so you can stay in your own house longer.
  • Update design rules: New multi-unit buildings must meet updated design guidelines for accessibility, wider doorways and safer staircases.
  • Expand partnerships: We partner with Tamsin Valley Public Health and local non-profits to deliver housing supports and health checks under one roof.
  • Advocate for provincial supports: We push the provincial government to expand Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) so low-income seniors can afford their monthly rent.

Supporting you at home

If you are 65 or older, the City offers programs to help you stay independent. You do not need to move to access these services.

  • Home Services for Seniors: Free seasonal yard work, snow clearing and light housekeeping. Call 519-555-0100 or email [email protected] to ask about eligibility.
  • Centennial Adult Day Program: A day program for older adults and caregivers. The daily fee is $25.00. Fee assistance is available through the Adult day program page.
  • Supportive housing directory: The City maintains a list of available supportive and assisted housing options for older adults. Browse available units.
