Get help with home repairs and accessibility upgrades

If you own a home in Wrenford and need help covering the cost of essential repairs or making your house safer and more accessible, the City offers financial assistance. These programmes are designed to keep you living independently in the home you love.

Who can apply

You can apply if you are a Wrenford homeowner and meet the income eligibility requirements. Priority is given to:

  • Residents aged 65 and older
  • People living with a physical or developmental disability
  • Households receiving Ontario Works or other income assistance
  • Low- and moderate-income families

Funding available

The City provides three main funding options depending on your needs. All programmes cover materials and labour for approved work.

Wrenford Home Repair Grant

Grants of up to $7,500 are available for essential repairs that protect the structure of your home. Approved projects include roof replacement, plumbing and electrical upgrades, foundation repairs, and window replacements. This is not a loan, so you do not need to pay the money back.

Accessibility Modification Loan

Low-interest loans of up to $15,000 help you make lasting changes to your home. You can use these funds to install wheelchair ramps, widen doorways, add bathroom grab bars, lower countertops, or upgrade your heating and ventilation systems. The City offers flexible repayment terms to match your monthly budget.

Seniors Home Safety Grant

Seniors can apply for up to $2,500 to prevent falls and improve daily comfort. Common projects include stairlifts, non-slip flooring, better lighting in hallways, and grab bar installation in bathrooms. You must be 65 or older to qualify for this grant.

How to apply

Applying is simple and the City does not charge an application fee. Follow these steps:

  1. Download the application form or pick up a copy at Room 310, Wrenford City Hall.
  2. Fill out the form and attach proof of income, your most recent property tax statement, and at least two written quotes from licensed contractors.
  3. Submit your package by mail, by email, or in person at the Service Wrenford counter.

Emergency repair applications are accepted year-round. For planned projects, the City holds intake windows in early spring and early fall. A community services coordinator will contact you within five business days to confirm your application was received and discuss next steps.

Rules and limits

Funding is provided as a one-time benefit per household. If your home receives a grant or loan, the property must remain your primary residence for at least three years. The City will conduct a property inspection after the work is finished to ensure it meets Wrenford building standards. You must keep all receipts and contractor invoices for your records.
