On Monday, January 8, 2024, Wrenford City Council approved the 2024 operating and capital budget after a full day of debate. The approved budget includes targeted updates to municipal parking rates across the downtown core and the Market Square Parking Garage, alongside continued funding for road maintenance, public safety, and recreation facilities.
"We know that parking is a daily priority for our residents and business owners," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "These rate adjustments are carefully planned to manage demand in our busiest zones, improve enforcement, and fund the infrastructure upgrades needed to keep our streets and garages safe and accessible for everyone."
Starting February 1, 2024, the following parking rates will take effect:
- The hourly rate in Zone A (downtown core) will increase from $2.00 to $2.50 per hour.
- The Zone B rate (Fallsview and Market Square) will increase from $1.50 to $1.75 per hour.
- The daily maximum at the Market Square Parking Garage will rise from $12.00 to $14.00.
- The monthly permit for the Market Square Garage will increase from $95.00 to $105.00.
- Residential parking permits will see a slight increase from $75.00 to $80.00 annually.
These changes are designed to support the City's broader transportation goals, including improved transit integration and expanded cycling infrastructure. Revenue generated from these updates will be directed toward the Roads & Winter Maintenance program and the Transit network improvements project.
Residents and business operators can review the full schedule and apply for updated permits through the Parking permit applications portal. Digital parking permits are issued as printable PDFs, so no physical decals will be mailed.
