What is the Transit Network Improvements Project?

The Transit Network Improvements Project was designed to reshape transit service in Wrenford. Our goal is to create a network that offers more direct service, better connections between neighbourhoods, and improved quality, comfort, and safety for every rider.

Working closely with the community, transit staff, and stakeholders, we developed a strategy to guide how Wrenford Transit operates now and in the future. This project helps us make the most of our existing budget while planning for the city's growth.

What we have done so far

Network restructuring and route optimization

In early 2024, we completed a full review of our fixed routes. Based on public feedback, ridership data, and community input, we adjusted Routes 1 through 14. The changes give you:

  • More direct paths to downtown, hospitals, and colleges without needing multiple transfers.
  • Higher frequency on the busiest corridors during morning and evening rush hours.
  • Better connections between residential areas and key destinations like Tamsin College and Wrenford General Hospital.

Right-sizing the fleet

To match the new route structure, Wrenford Transit purchased a fleet of smaller, 9.1-metre low-floor buses. These vehicles are easier to handle on narrower residential streets and provide step-free access for everyone. We began rolling them out on neighbourhood routes in March 2024.

What is next?

Exploring on-demand transit

As we look ahead, we are currently exploring options for an on-demand transit service. This would allow you to book a shared ride through the Wrenford Transit app for trips that don't follow a fixed schedule. We want to hear your thoughts on how this could work in your neighbourhood.

Improving bus stops and shelters

Alongside the route changes, we are upgrading stops to be safer, cleaner, and more accessible. This includes adding new shelters, improving lighting, and ensuring all stops are clear of snow and debris in the winter. Learn how we are Improving bus stops across the city.

How we listened to you

Public engagement has been at the heart of this project. We held open houses, online surveys, and on-bus feedback sessions to gather your ideas. Over 800 residents and riders shared their thoughts on what matters most: reliable service, safe stops, and connections that make sense.

We reviewed every comment and used it to shape the route map and service plan that you see today. If you have ongoing ideas for transit in Wrenford, you can reach out to Transit Manager Daniel Osei at [email protected].
