The City of Wrenford has unveiled a comprehensive waste management plan for the upcoming Benchlands Folk Festival, which will take place the second weekend of August at Benchlands Lookout Park.
Event organizers are rolling out new sorting stations, extra waste carts, and a volunteer "Green Team" to help festival-goers separate their trash. The goal is to divert at least 75 per cent of all festival waste from the landfill through proper sorting and composting.
Attendees are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and cups. The festival will feature multiple Blue bin stations for plastics, paper, and aluminium, as well as Green bin drop-off points for food scraps and compostable plates. A Black cart will remain for items that cannot be recycled or composted.
"We are working hard to make sure the Benchlands Folk Festival sets a new standard for zero-waste events in Wrenford," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "By using the right bins and bringing your own reusable gear, you help keep our parks clean and protect the Tamsin River corridor."
Before you go, check the Waste Wizard to see exactly what can go in each bin. Festival volunteers will be on-site to answer questions and guide you to the correct sorting stations.
