Weekly collection

Your Blue Bin is collected every week on the same day as your garbage and Green Bin. You can find your specific collection day on the Garbage and recycling collection schedule page. Place your Blue Bin at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection morning. If a statutory holiday falls on your collection day, pickup will be delayed by one day for that week only. Regular service resumes the following week.

What goes in the Blue Bin

Wrenford follows the provincial Blue Box program. This means the producers who make and sell products are responsible for recycling packaging and paper. You will see no changes to your collection day or what you can recycle, but you will not see a separate recycling charge on your utility bill.

Place these items loose in your Blue Bin:

  • Plastic containers and bottles (labels removed)
  • Cardboard and paperboard (flatten boxes)
  • Mixed paper (newspapers, magazines, junk mail)
  • Aluminum and steel cans
  • Glass bottles and jars (place in a separate clear bag or box to prevent breakage)

Do not put plastic bags, food wrappers, bubble wrap, styrofoam, or plastic bags containing recycling into the Blue Bin. These items tangle sorting machines. Take them to a drop-off depot instead.

Where to take plastic bags and foam

Flexible plastics, overwrap, and foam containers are collected at depots. You can drop them off at:

  • East Wrenford Waste Management Facility (3500 Concession 4 Road, Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • Northgate Drop-off Depot (1010 Northgate Boulevard, Wednesday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

Multi-family properties

Apartments, townhouses, and condominiums receive shared recycling bins. Each building gets a reusable bag so residents can carry recyclables from their units to the shared bin area. Place all recyclables loose in the shared bin. If your bin is overflowing or damaged, contact your property manager or the City at [email protected].

Tips for successful collection

  • Rinse containers to remove food residue.
  • Flatten cardboard to save space.
  • Seal shredded paper in a paper bag or box before placing it in the bin. Loose shredded paper will blow away.
  • Keep bins visible from the street and away from parked cars.
  • You may use more than one Blue Bin if needed. Extra bins are free.
