Ambrel Lake Park pathway expansion project approved by council

The City of Wrenford has officially approved the Ambrel Lake Loop Expansion, a project that will add a new accessible pathway around the north shore of Ambrel Lake Park. City Council made the decision on January 18, 2024, adding a key piece to our growing Parks & Trails network.

The new route will connect the existing boardwalk to the Tamsin River Trail and create a full loop for walkers, runners, and cyclists. The design focuses on low-impact construction and environmental protection. Crews will install permeable paving to manage stormwater, plant native shrubs and grasses to support local wildlife, and protect the roots of mature trees along the shoreline. The expansion also meets AODA standards, ensuring smooth, wide paths for wheelchairs and strollers.

Construction is expected to begin this spring and wrap up by fall 2024. During the work period, a small section of the north shore will be closed to keep visitors safe. You can still enjoy the playground, picnic shelters, and south shore trails as usual. The City will post regular updates on the Service Alerts page and provide weekly progress reports through Parks & Trails.

“We are building this pathway to give more residents safe, year-round access to the lake while protecting the natural shoreline,” said Robert Eng, City Manager. “The design balances everyday recreation with long-term climate resilience and habitat recovery.”

Once the loop is open, visitors are asked to stay on the paved route, keep dogs on a six-metre leash outside of designated off-leash zones, and report any maintenance concerns through the online form.
